If you are a follower of Christ you, like me, look forward to the day we call the rapture. This is the day the Lord Jesus calls us home to be with Him. This will kick off the beginning of the tribulation.
Knowing that Jesus can come and get us at any time makes us wonder what in the world is taking so long. If we go to II Peter 3:8-9, “But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. 9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.” We see the patience of the Lord for one reason. He desires that none should perish. As much as we want to go home, Jesus is still patient so that others may come to salvation. I guess that is only right, what if Jesus came back before we were saved? We would be in big trouble.
If we continue in the text, we see the warning that the Lord will come like a thief. There will be a new heaven and earth, and all that has been done will be exposed. Then comes a warning, or challenge in verses 14-15, “Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless, 15 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation;”
While waiting for Jesus to come and get us, we are called to glorify Christ with our lives every day as we wait. When it comes to lost people coming to Jesus, we can either be part of the problem or the solution. To be a part of the solution, we must live our lives in such a way that draws people to Jesus, not away from Him. This is a call for patience, forgiveness, and grace. We are also called to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
I look forward to the day we hear the trumpet sound, and the sky is parted, and not only will we see Jesus, but according to I Thessalonians those who have gone before us will be with Him and we will meet in the air. Yeah, who can’t wait for that? But until then we must be about the Father’s business of drawing others to Him.
I finish with this thought. We know His return is closer today than it was yesterday, are we ready? Are we ready to look Jesus in the face and give an account of what we did with the days He has given us up until that point?
Let us be sober in thought and action and win people for Jesus until then. It’s going to be so awesome. Hope to see you there.
