In Matthew chapter 18, we see our beloved disciples asking a very natural and worldly question. “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” I love how Jesus answers this question. He does so by taking a child, and in my mind’s eye having the child sit upon His lap and answering this question by saying “You have to be converted and become like children just to enter the kingdom of heaven, to be great in the kingdom you must be humble just like a child.”
That conversation is at the beginning of the chapter, but then Jesus goes on in verse 10 to say, “See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven continually see the face of My Father who is in heaven.” Just stop for a second and ponder upon what our Lord is saying. The word despise means to look down upon. Children are very dear and precious to our Lord. I believe He says it even better in verse 6, “but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.” Are we catching what Jesus is throwing here? Children are very, very precious to our Lord. With that being said, shouldn’t children be precious to us as well? Jesus sternly warns those who harm children, physically, emotionally, and especially spiritually. I am sure our first thoughts jump to what is happening in our nation as children are being mutilated for the sake of political correctness or because of some fad. Undoubtedly, our nation will have to answer for these atrocities committed against all these innocent, precious little ones. But, let me step on a few toes here. How is this different from parents who do not teach their children about Jesus, to make sure they are in church, and go to Sunday School where they can hear the truth, and find love and acceptance?
In the month of May, we will be focusing on family at Old Town Hill. The church has allowed the world and its system to have way too much influence on our children. Our government has made it no secret that they want to raise our children, to indoctrinate them, to lead them down a path of demonic destruction. My brothers and sisters, there are so many things that take our family away from Jesus and His body of believers. There are so many distractions, but I do not read anywhere where there is baseball, basketball, or volleyball in hell. So, what exactly are we preparing them for?
The Lord has given us a beautiful and precious gift called children; we cannot allow the enemy to lay claim to them. Let us gather together to love, teach, and protect OUR children.
