We are getting to the end of what we call “Passion Week.” This is the week we take time to focus on the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ and all that took place throughout the week.

From the time the Lord entered Jerusalem on “Palm Sunday”, there was a lot our Lord did throughout the week. Jesus once again had to drive the money changers out of the temple complex. He did a lot of teaching. Jesus was constantly being challenged by the religious rulers as well. The Lord also issued great warnings about the end of days that were to come and how we should prepare for this time.

During all of this, Jesus knew what was coming. He knew that He was going to be betrayed by one of His own, that He would be illegally tried, beaten, spat upon, and a multitude of other horrendous acts that He had to endure. We read about the anguish in which He prayed in the Garden, that if it was possible for the cup that He was going to drink of to pass from Him, but not His will, the Father’s will be done.

He spoke of this to His disciples multiple times, but either they didn’t understand or didn’t want to acknowledge this, and they decided to focus on other things.  Even at the Passover supper, it wasn’t long before the disciples began to discuss not only who would betray Jesus but who was considered the greatest among them. It is amazing that these men were so focused on their own wants and desires that they did not pay attention to what was happening right before them.

This weekend, in fact, this whole week, is a historical and spiritual time of remembrance to remember and ponder upon the price that was paid for our salvation. Even when we were enemies of God, He chose to rescue us through the blood of Jesus Christ. Remember the horrors and pain that our Lord faced. The greatest yet is that after all of this, Sunday is coming. The tomb is empty, and our Savior lives.

So, let me ask you this one question. Where is your focus? I know that life goes on. Work needs to be done, and school has to be attended, but let us stop and take time to be present with Jesus as we keep our focus on Him and His love for us. Let us keep our focus on Easter day; let us focus on the resurrection. Luke 22:19-20, “This is My body, which is given for you, Do this in remembrance of Me.”  “This cup is the new covenant by My blood; it is shed for you.” Where is our focus?
