Most of us are familiar with “Escape Rooms.” The idea is that a small group of people are locked in a room and must find clues that lead them to be able to unlock the door and escape. I have done something similar with my family and even though it was a lot of fun, I will admit there were times I just wished someone had the answer to the riddle that would unlock what we needed to unlock so we could win.
In my devotions today I was in the book of Acts and in chapter five we see some very amazing and powerful miracles happening. We see the death of Ananias and Sapphira because they lied to the Holy Spirit. We also see the Holy Spirit working through Apostle Peter as many were healed just because his shadow fell upon them.
In the process, a great jealousy arose among the religious, and the Apostles were arrested and thrown into prison. Verses 19-20, “But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the gates of the prison, and taking them out he said, “Go, stand and speak to the people in the temple the whole message of this Life.”
When I read this, it hit me that we are all or have been in some kind of prison at some time. We all were at one time in the prison of lostness, but the Lord came and opened those prison doors and now we are free. But there are many today who still find themselves in all kinds of prisons. Some are the prisons of addiction, broken relationships, and mental and physical prisons. The wonderful truth is that the same God that frees us from sin can free all from those prisons as well.
Now I want us to see what they were to do when they were freed. They had a purpose and that was to go and speak to people the whole message of this life. We are freed for a purpose and that is to tell others they too can be freed from the prison of sin and hell. We all can be freed from any prison cell we find ourselves in because of the power and might of Jesus Christ.
Isn’t it wonderful to remember where we were and where the Lord has brought us? It is also good to remember that all who have been freed have been given a great purpose and that is to give the good news that Jesus is still in the business of opening prison doors and freeing those who are imprisoned. I love being a part of seeing prison doors open, don’t you?
