The Finder

I don’t know what it is about moms, but they seem to be able to find anything that is lost in the house. If kids lose a shoe, mom will either know where it is, or she will find it. Dad loses his car keys; Mom will find them. I don’t know, maybe it’s a spiritual gift. My question is about the ability to see things based on the desire to find them. 

Take the Lord for example. In Luke chapter 15, we find 3 great parables of the lost being found. The first is the parable of the lost sheep, the second is the parable of the lost coin, and the last one is what we know as the “Prodigal Son.”

There are numerous lessons to be learned in all three, but there is one underlying truth that Jesus wants us to understand. The truth is that the Father is always the One looking for the lost, that being us. We see a man searching for his lost sheep and he leaves behind all the rest to find it. Why? Because the one is just as important as the 99. Then we see a woman with ten silver coins lose one. The Bible says she searched diligently until she found it. In the last one, we see the youngest son leave his father to live his own life, but the boy comes to his senses and comes back to an awaiting father.

What we will see is there is one common action in all of these, celebration.  V. 6, “And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!” V. 9, “When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I had lost!’ Then again in verse 24, “for this son of mine was dead and has come to life again; he was lost and has been found.’ And they began to celebrate.”

All of these speak to one glorious truth. The Father seeks those of us who were lost and when we are found there is a wonderful celebration. You see, whether we are saved and have wandered away, or we have never been reborn the Father never gives up on us. He is always searching for us, desiring for us to be with Him.

He does this because He loves and finds value in us. So much so that He came in the flesh to find us, to save us, and to rescue us. The other beautiful truth is that there is no limit to which He will go to reach you and me. So, if you feel lost, the Lord is reaching out to you, He is searching for you. All we must do is go to Him and reach out to Him. When you do, there will be great rejoicing in heaven. Why you may ask. Because you my friend have great worth in the Lord’s economy, and you are greatly loved.
