There is no doubt that we live in troublesome times. Our nation is filled with anger and venom. You can no longer share an opinion without someone wanting to do physical harm to you. This next election is no different. Our nation is so polarized I often wonder if we will ever be one nation under God again if we ever were to begin with. We see war in the Ukraine as a demonic dictator bombs innocent women and children in his effort to claim a sovereign country. Then in the Middle East, we see Israel fighting for their very existence. We even have people in our nation that are now siding with terrorists over the only democracy in the region let alone God’s chosen people.
Crime and drugs are out of control and life seems to have become so cheap to people. We now even debate whether a child can be terminated right up to birth. It makes me heartbroken and sometimes angry, and I wonder how long all this is going to keep going on.
This is when we must decide to trust our Lord. In the Gospel of John chapter 14 we see a verse that we are all familiar with, verse 27, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.” These are powerful words, but they are mere words if we do not take what the Lord says to heart and make it a part of our lives. This means we must be reminded that the Lord is still in total control and there is nothing that is going to take Him by surprise.
What is happening around us is according to His plan and man will not be able to disrupt it. There are times when things look bleak and hopeless, but these are the times when we see biblical prophecy unfold right before our very eyes. This alone should bring excitement and anticipation to our souls.
Peace is something that we cannot achieve on our own. Man on his own cannot produce anything but chaos and turmoil. This may be why our hearts tremble and worry about what is going on around us. But praise God we are not relying upon man to satisfy or bring peace in our lives or even in our society. Peace is unattainable, but with God all things are possible. I challenge us to ask about who we really trust. If we trust ourselves or man in general, then I would say we have every right to be worried and afraid. If we trust in Jesus, then we have absolutely nothing to fear and we know that He is in control.
It is then peace comes, even in the valley of the shadow of death, we can fear nothing for He is with us even to the end of this age.
